Dina and Davede {engaged} Truckee Tahoe Engagement Session

Early on January 2nd I peeled myself out of my warm bed to head up the hill for Dina and Davede’s engagement session.  Forget my holiday hangover, PLUS exhaustion from shooting a wedding on the 1st!  BUT for these two people I was happy to make the exception to my “monday day-off” rule.  Besides being ridiculously cute together, they also happen to be two of my dearest friends.  I have to pat myself on the back for my mad skills of introducing them and being a part of their budding friendship, romance and now engagement.  Boy are they lucky to know me!  Just kidding.

In all seriousness, I am lucky to have these sweet people in my life.

Enjoy a few highlights from there wintery engagement session.

Maggie & Dan {the wedding} Sir Frances Drake Hotel – San Francisco

I have been totally MIA the last month.  Now that the holidays are over I have a whole slough of new weddings to share with you all!

I have a ongoing love affair with San Francisco.  I always have…  Every time I drive the 4.4 mile span of the Bay Bridge I peer up the columns carrying the swooping support cable into the sky and think about how fortunate I am to live within 100 miles of this fantastic city.   A while back I arrived on a typically windy morning at Union Square’s Sir Francis Drake hotel to photograph Maggie and Dan’s wedding day.  My very first wedding in this city happened to be at this beautiful venue and at the time I was assisting as a second shooter with my mentor and friend Scott Robert Lim.  Having had the pleasure of working with a number of hotels surrounding it over the past 5 years or so, I have to say it brought me great satisfaction to walk through the doors rolling my equipment bag behind me with my OWN assistant in tow:)  The ceremony was a short distance away at St Patrick’s church…  After which, we managed to get all the way over to Fort Point for portraits and then meandered our way back through the city to enjoy a lovely reception in the grand ballroom at the hotel!  I’m honored to have been chosen to help tell and preserve forever THIS portion of Maggie and Dan’s love story and wish them the very best:)

Cheers!

She is herself – Fashion Editorial – Sarah Dawson Photography

She sits

She stares

She looks at everyone, everything, anything,

She can’t help but be like everything

She is self-contained, self-restrained, self-conscious,

She is wary

She wants to let go, of her inhibitions, limitations, expectations

She wants
She needs
She fills the room, a girl among many
She whispers, why now, why me

She sees nothing in herself that she doesn’t see in others
She is a part of a cohesive whole

She looks about
She wonders
She realizes

She’s an artist, a realist, a pessimist, an intellectual, a relationship seeker, a sensitive soul
She is, she can, she will be anything,

She is shaped by everything, but ruled by nothing
She is, herself
She is, herself
She, like so many, walk the earth
She, like so many, live a privileged life
She could have lived a different life
She could have been anything—a weeping willow, a souring snowflake, a daring dog, a confident cat, but
She wasn’t
She is a person, a woman, an impressionable being
She lives a life of twists and turns, bends and hurdles,

She’s had her hopes crushed, spirit lifted, dreams re-awaked

She feels, needs, yearns,

She is important

She is unique
She is herself.
